Robert Burns Night

St. Urho's Day Art and Bake Sale

The annual St. Urho's Day celebration at the Kaleva Art Gallery will be Saturday, March 17, from 10-4. Visit the giant grasshopper on Walta St. and stop in the gallery in downtown Kaleva to learn the "whole" story of St. Urho driving the grasshoppers out of Finland! Shop for locally made, unique items at the gallery.

Finnish Line 5K Walk Run

The Finnish Line 5K walk/run will start at 9:00 am on the Saturday of Kaleva Days,3rd weekend in July. Register on site at the Bethany Lutheran Church on Kauko St. or call 231.362.3519. The Kaleva Historical Society Bake Sale is held the same day at the Bottle House Museum from 9 am until 4 pm.

Kaleva Bottle House Museum

The Bottle House Museum in Kaleva is open on Saturdays and Sundays from Memorial Day through Labor Day, and Saturdays through October. New display features Brethren High School's award- winning Servie Learning class working in Kaleva 1996-2000, the Makinen Tackle Collection, many other displays updated. The Kaleva Depot Railroad Museum is open on Saturdays from Memorial Day to Labor Day 12:00-4:00 pm. See railroad memorabilia, a M&NE restored engine and artifacts from the days the train passed through Kaleva many times a day. Located at 14420 Walta St., 231.362.3480 or 231.362.2080.

Winter Solstice

Annual Lighting of the Cemetery on the Winter Solstice, December 21, in Kaleva. Starting at 4:00 pm on the longest night, hundreds of luminaries are placed on graves in the Kaleva cemetery to honor loved ones. Meet at 14701 Metsola Ave. to help with the luminaries. There is a short program at the cemetery at 5:15 and a soup supper following at Kaleva’s Bethany Lutheran Church. All are welcome.
