Artists now have a chance to address this subject and make an artistic statement. Peace is not just the absence of conflict. It is the presence of community, fairness, environmental sustainability, economic opportunity for all, and just plain love. It's work that is good. Play that's good. It's respect for each other, and for nature. This exhibit is a collaboration between the Manistee Area Peace Group and the Manistee Art Institute.

Green Arts Festival
The ACA will partner with Douglas Valley in a Green Arts Festival on September 18, 2010. All works must be made of re-cycled or throw-away materials. The show will run all day Saturday at Douglas Valley. There is a $15 entry fee for artists, prizes will be awarded. There will also be a silent auction with proceeds going to ACA scholarship fund. Art & craft sales/booth space will be available for $5. An artists' reception will be hosted by the Arts and Culture Alliance on Friday from 7-9 pm.

Maureen Lee Harju-Dwyer, member of World Concertina Congress Hall of Fame, plays "the Four Jacks" on youtube.com, has been playing concertina for about 50 years and will be playing for Octoberfest, featuring all German music in downtown Ludington October 2. Maureen is available for bookings: Scandinavian, German, Polish, Irish, tangos, waltzes, polkas, 2 step, sing-a-longs, any old time music.

This elegant concert/dessert is on the Thursday of the Victorian Sleighbell Weekend. Held at the Faith Covenant Church, 475 8th Street at 7 pm, reservations are required. The Chorus, all outfitted in elegant Victorian dress, present Christmas and seasonal music, while at the intermission, the guests are served a traditional Victorian dessert with all the trimmings.

The MAI will be hosting a Student Art Exhibit this year at Hardy Hall in the histroic Ramsdell Complex to showcase the talented young artist of Manistee County. This show is always a favorite and an encouragement for all the fine school age artist in our community.

December 21, Annual Lighting of the Cemetery on Winter Solstice, Kaleva. Starting at 4:00 pm on the longest night, hundreds of luminaries are placed on graves in the Kaleva cemetery to honor loved ones. There is a soup supper and short program at Kaleva’s Bethany Lutheran Church at 5:30 pm. All are welcome.
